DENVER—Hans Pacejka has been named winner of the Tire Society's Distinguished Technical Achievement Award.
The biennially presented award honors a person who has made substantial contributions to the science and technology of tires. Pacejka, who is known for his work with modeling of tires, will receive the award Sept. 10 in Akron during the association's annual conference.
The Tire Society said Pacejka is most noted for his "Magic Formula," which he developed in 1987, in conjunction with the Volvo car to describe measured tire behavior to use in vehicle dynamics molding. It still is used today, and spurred the development of similar, more advanced models that include higher frequency response, the society said.
